Our Mission
The Forgotten Koreans is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to uncovering and honoring a painful, overlooked chapter of history. During the 1940s, amidst the turmoil of Japanese colonialism, countless Koreans were displaced and sent to Mexico, where they faced involuntary servitude and enslavement. Many of their descendants later migrated to Cuba, carrying with them a heritage that has remained unrecognized for generations.
Our mission is threefold
Acknowledge: To get acknowledgement from the government of Cuba regarding the existence of involuntary servitude and the unjust treatment of Koreans on its soil.
Empower: To support the 3rd and 4th generation Korean-Mayan communities in Mexico. We strive to preserve their unique cultural identity and improve their quality of life through educational opportunities.
Connect: To bridge the gap between these forgotten communities and their ancestral homeland by funding cultural exchanges and preserving historical sites.
At The Forgotten Koreans, we turn awareness into action. Our primary focus is on the Korean-Mayan communities in Yucatan, Mexico, and advocating for recognition in Cuba.
